Description
This Christian Becker Inc. Large Scale. Made in New York, New York USA. There is a serial Number on the side B30577. This scale is a beast and would be the centerpiece of any room! In fact, I can not find another scale that Christian Becker made that was bigger than this one nor can I find another one of this model anywhere. I searched and searched and finally found a description on the Torbal Wikiscales site (since 1887.) It appears to be the CHRISTIAN BECKER TECHNICAL PRECISION BALANCE SCALE MODEL NUMBER 13 and I have included a snap shot of that screen in the last picture. It has a
bronze center beam, 61 cm. (24”) long, great tensile strength and uniform density. Will sustain full load without flexure and maintain adjustment through varying temperature changes. The bows are b
rass, 34 1/4 cm. Wide x 56 cm. High inside (13 1/2” x 22”). and the pans are b
rass, 23 cm. (9”) diameter.
The case dimensions are
overall 44 3/4" long, 16” deep, and 40” high. It is made of polished mahogany, with glass sides, front sliding glass door that is counterpoised, and rear glass door that is removable. It stand on level and leveling screws.
I have no idea on the weight of the whole scale but a much smaller one on eBay describes the weight of that one as approximately 32 pounds. I can tell you for sure that it will take two people to move it around and I'm guessing the weight to be more than 75 pounds.
Please feel free to ask me any questions and I will answer you to the best of my ability and please feel free to give me any extra information on this piece as this is all I know. Like I said earlier this would be a great center piece to a scientific themed room and certainly a unique piece for any collector of such things!!!
