DINNER BONNET Civil War Reproduction Hat Cap Choose from 6 Elegant Fabrics

Mid 1860's through 1870's Fanchon bonnets, also known as a Half-Bonnet or Dinner bonnet. As the popularity of parasols made the full bonnet less of a necessity, a lighter, less bulky cap came into fashion. Fanchon in French means freedom, or "the free one". The ladies of the era must have felt much lighter and freer wearing this little slip of a bonnet instead of the heavy and enclosing bonnets previously worn. The cap consists of a half-oval brim with an attached lace bavolet. The bonnet ties under the chin with wide satin ribbons.  The brims are wired and can be shaped and re-shaped to suit your face. Like the traditional bonnet, this bonnet could also be worn indoors with a nice visiting dress or dinner dress.
There are six caps available, options:
MULTI-COLORED:   This fanchon is covered and lined with a silky, print fabric with a subtle woven slub. It has a cream colored background with a floral print of peach shades, green shades and blue-gray.  The wired brim is lined with a row of ruffled white cotton lace. A small posy of peach and cream colored daisies decorates the side of the bonnet. The bavolet is 8" wide white, low luster scalloped lace which approximates period cotton lace. The bonnet is 14" across and 5" deep.  The fanchon ties under the chin with floral patterned 1 1/4"  single-faced ribbon which reflects the flower spray on the bonnet with flower and butterfly motifs on a white background and with blue on both edges. The back of the ribbon is textured white within the blue edge.
GREEN:  Dark green velveteen covered fanchon. The velveteen is woven into a cross-hatched or checkerboard pattern which is laid obliquely on the dinner bonnet. The wired brim is lined with medium green cotton broadcloth.  It  fanchon measures 13 1/2" across and 5 1/4" deep. The bavolet is made of 5" wide cream colored floral pattern cotton lace, the flowers form a pretty scallop across the bottom edge of the lace. The matching cream colored ribbon is 1 1/2" wide. The ribbon is woven with lines and flourishes running the length of the ribbon. It has been left unadorned so that decoration of your choice can be pinned to the cap to reflect the changes in the seasons.
TAN:  Golden tan velveteen woven in an attractive basket weave design. The wired brim is lined with chocolate brown cotton broadcloth. The extra long (11 1/2") bavolet is made of buttercream colored floral patterned lace. The 2 1/4" wide ribbon is a rich, bright gold single faced satin. The fanchon is 14" wide and 5 3/4" deep. It has been left unadorned so that decoration of your choice can be pinned to the cap to reflect the changes in the seasons.
PINK: Pink panne velvet lined with light pink cotton. The white satin ribbons are attached across the back of the bonnet. The bavolet is exquisite Venice lace in a pattern that resembles ribbons worked into flower shapes against a background of small flowers.
GRAY:  A pretty gray and cream colored woven cotton brocade in a floral pattern. The brim is decorated with a wide band of gray Venice lace. The bavolet is made of white, low luster floral lace. The ribbon ties are silver colored double faced satin worked into puffs at the sides.
NAVY BLUE:  Dark navy blue crushed velvet. The right side of the bonnet is decorated with a small bouquet of  fabric flowers in shades of blue with small green fabric leaves. The inside of the bonnet is lined with black broadcloth. The bavolet is 3 1/2" scalloped black lace with designs of flowers and swirls. The ribbon ties are made of  1 1/2" wide black double-faced satin ribbon.
